I hope this letter finds you and your families well; a Friday update for you as always.
We were pleased to welcome our building contractors onto site on Monday of this week. They have begun their preparatory work, securing their compound before the ‘proper’ work begins in the coming weeks. Students have dealt very well with the reduced space at break and lunchtimes, with a much busier ‘middle playground’ as a result. I am grateful to students for their cooperation so far.
Sticking with the theme, we found out yesterday that Phase 1 of our expansion, our canteen and activities studio, won a SPACES award (Society of Public Architecture, Construction, Engineering and Surveying). There will be a small ceremony to present this award to us later this half term.
Girls’ sport has been taking centre stage this week with fixtures for the Year 9 and 10 football team, as well as the Year 9 girls’ basketball team. It is great to see our girls taking part and representing the school so well. Well done to all involved.
Year 9 begin their exams on Wednesday next week. To help them prepare for those, they took part in a study skills workshop on Tuesday, which was well received by the students. They have also spent some of their tutor time examining revision strategies and such like too. We wish them the very best for the exams.
Year 8 HPV injections have been rescheduled for Monday 16th January 2023. Only the students whose parents have consented online, will receive the HPV injection on this day.
Wednesday will see some of our Year 7s on a numeracy trip, visiting Queens Road Cemetery, and we look forward to welcoming Dame Minouche Shafik, renowned Economist and former Deputy Governor of The Bank of England, who will be speaking to our Year 10s.
Natalie Haynes, acclaimed author and classicist, will be visiting the Classics Department on Friday 20th of January, to reward the winners of the Classics Competition. Students will have the opportunity to meet her and showcase their entries. Congratulations to the following students for participating in the competition: Ali Akhtar, Adyaan Khan, Isabella Ryan, Zayn Bham, Esha Latif, Zahra Turkmani, Armita Yadollahi, Sakina Shah, Devon Miller, Mariyah Djoudi and Lass Swara.
Finally, congratulations to Deepmoy Pal in 8S who topped the rewards points charts last week, keep up the good work.
Yours sincerely
Mr Sam Jones
