Headteacher's Weekly Update - 23rd September 2022

I hope this letter finds you and your families well; a Friday update for you as always.

It was lovely to welcome so many parents and carers on to the school site this week for our Year 11 and Year 7 Information Evenings. Both evenings were incredibly well attended, something that is very important as we work together to achieve the very best for each and every one of our students. I am grateful too, to the staff who gave so freely of their time during a typically busy school week.

We saw fourteen of our Year 10 Latin GCSE students visit the British Museum on Tuesday. They explored the 'Feminine power - the divine to the demonic' exhibition and took part in a Roman Britain workshop. They had a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Next week looks set to be another busy week with our Open Evening taking place on Wednesday, after school between 5pm and 7.30pm. We have returned to something that is much more like a ‘normal’ Open Evening following the Covid years, which is pleasing. This means that we are able to have many more Kelmscott students helping out in various departments and areas across the school. Many thanks to all those involved. A reminder that next Thursday, 29th September is a late start for students following the late finish for Open Evening the previous day. Can all students please arrive at school at 10.40am on Thursday, through their usual gate. They will have break time, before going to session two as normal.

A vacancy has become available for a parent governor on our Full Governing Body. We are fortunate to have a terrific and diverse group of governors, who commit fully to supporting the work of the school, as well as challenging us, in absolutely the right way. If you are interested in becoming a parent governor, and think you have a skill-set that can support and further develop the work that we do, please get in contact with my PA, Louise Adams l.adams@kelmscott.waltham.sch.uk who can provide you with more details. We are always trying to diversify yet further, and really want our governing body to be representative of our community here in Walthamstow. We look forward to hearing from you.

School photograph proofs have been provided to students whose photograph was taken on 12th September. Please be mindful that orders must be completed by 27th September either online or via reception using the order form that was provided, along with the correct payment. Orders processed after this date will incur a £4 surcharge.

Finally, congratulations to Nojus Staponkus in 8M who achieved the most rewards points last week with twenty-six, keep up the good work.

Yours sincerely

Mr Sam Jones
