Headteacher's Weekly Update - 15th October 2021

A Friday update for you, as always, as we approach the last week before the half term holiday.

We had a lockdown drill in school this morning to practice our PROTECT procedure in the event of a serious security risk, inside or nearby the school. We do not foresee anything like this happening of course, however it is of vital importance that staff and students are able to calmly follow the procedure in the unlikely event it was necessary. The drill was a great success and we encourage you to discuss with your daughter/son how they experienced it.

Please be reassured that contact with parents is built into our PROTECT procedure and, in a real life situation, parents/carers would be made aware of a lockdown as soon as possible, via MyEd. With this in mind, I would like to remind you of the importance of keeping your contact details up-to-date, and to ensure you have the MyEd app downloaded. If you have any difficulties with MyEd, please contact the school via info@kelmscott.waltham.sch.uk so that we can assist you. Thank you for your cooperation here.

We had our Open Evening this Wednesday, as we opened the school to welcome prospective parents and children to Kelmscott, to showcase all the fantastic things that we do. The event was a real success with visitors highlighting how exceptional their student tour guides were, how passionate and knowledgeable our staff are and what great facilities we now boast.

Evenings like this always force me to reflect on our journey as a school. I am very proud of the progress we are making but know too, that it is just the start. We had many more families, in the local area, leaving the school on Wednesday evening, now fully aware of the quality of the school. Our reputation in the local community is obviously improving all the time and word of mouth seems to be helping enormously here too.

A few reminders about key dates next week:

  • Thursday 21st October - Year 10 Parents Evening 4.30 – 7pm – in person event Families and staff to wear masks please to ensure we protect one another

  • Friday 22nd October – Training Day for staff, school CLOSED to students

At the time of writing there have been four positive cases of Covid 19 this week. We will continue to wear masks next week, and hope that this measure, and the half term holiday, act as a circuit breaker of sorts. Thanks, in advance, for your support here.

Information regarding the Covid vaccination programme, including a link to an eConsent form, will be sent out on Monday. Please look out for this.

The Year 7 and Year 8 boys football teams were in action this week against local rivals Willowfield; the Year 7 team recorded an impressive 5-1 victory - well done to all involved, however, the Year 8 team didn’t fare so well, with a 5-2 loss - better luck next time boys.

Congratulations to Zara Mahmood in 10C who amassed 31 rewards points this week, the most in the school – keep up the good work.

As always, please get in contact if you have any questions or queries about your child’s education.

Yours sincerely

Mr Sam Jones
